KTM, the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, in a short time, has become a household name in India. The brand offers an extensive range of motorcycles in India. The brand’s line-up consists of street bikes, adventure bikes and compact sports bikes. This post, however, will shine a light on the good (and one bad) aspects of the RC 200 from KTM.
The good
Premium fit and finish
Just like the latest range of motorcycles from KTM, the KTM RC 200 flaunts its superior build quality. Every plastic panel on the RC 200 snugly fit with the rest of the bike. All plastic bits on the bike are made using high-grade polymers. Every crease, contour and line on the bike oozes superior craftsmanship. Hence, owning a KTM RC 200 will be a delightful experience.
A motorcycle that is pretty comfortable, especially for a compact sports bike
The latest iteration of the RC 200 is more rider-friendly compared to its predecessors. The overall ergonomics of the bike have been updated to a degree that makes it a perfect daily commuter. KTM has made sure that the seat height of the bike supports easy mounts and dismounts. Riders of all heights can ride this bike with ease. The handlebar of the bike has been raised in the latest iteration of the bike. This aspect allows riders to reduce the strain on their spine to a certain degree. Furthermore, the padding on the seats of the bike has been increased by several folds. On top of this, the seats on the latest iteration of the bike come with comfort-inducing contours as well. The latest iteration of the KTM RC 200 also flaunts a spacious rear seat.
However, the bike still fails to work as a highway cruiser. The reason is simple. To be a highway cruiser, a bike has to let its rider sit with relaxed arms and a straight spine. Since the RC 200 is a compact sports bike, riders would need to tuck in and stretch their arms. Hence, this bike on highway trips would leave its rider pretty tired within two to three hours of riding.
A marvellous engine that offers grin-inducing performance every time
The latest iteration of the RC 200 retained its 199.5 CC, single-cylinder, BS-6-tuned, liquid-cooled engine. The engine’s peak power and torque outputs also remain unchanged at 25.4bhp and 19.5Nm respectively.
The engine of the KTM RC 200 is paired with a six-speed transmission and a wet multi-disc clutch. The overall performance of the engine can be plotted using a linear graph. The best performance of this bike’s engine is unlocked in the top RPM ranges.
A bike that handles amazingly
The KTM RC 200 handles predictably. Hence, this motorcycle is suitable for veteran as well as novice riders. High-speed sprints are where the motorcycle shines. High-speed cornering on closed tracks is yet another ability of this motorcycle. Overtaking traffic or cutting through traffic on this bike are fun activities as well.
A redesigned instrument cluster
The latest version of the KTM RC 200 comes with a redesigned instrument cluster. The overall experience of using this instrument cluster is amazing as well.
The bad
The RC 200 is an amazing motorcycle. However, the bike’s ex-showroom price is steep. Currently, the RC 200 is offered in two trims. The base trim entails the ex-showroom price of Rs. 2, 14,694. The top trim on the other hand entails the ex-showroom price of Rs. 2, 18,142. One can even get this bike on EMI without interest (which is not a bad thing). Furthermore, KTM spare parts tend to come with steep price tags as well. On top of this, the overall ownership costs of a KTM bike are significant when compared to other motorcycles.
However, if one is looking for a compact sports bike that always offers a grin-inducing performance, the RC 200 is a ‘must buy’ motorcycle! For more details, it would be best that one test rides the RC 200 today.
