All degrees in marine biology at Southampton are accredited by the Institute of Maritime Engineering,
Science and Technology. They will prepare you for entry to higher degrees, and also provide you with the scientific and key skills that are essential to a wide range of public and private sector marine biological and environmental organisations.
The degrees in marine biology that are offered by us at the University of Southampton are as follows: BSc Geology with Marine Biology, MSci Marine Biology, BSc Marine Biology with foundation year (4 years), BSc Marine Biology with Oceanography, MSci Marine Biology with study abroad, BNatSci Ocean & Earth Science and Biological Sciences (specialising in Marine Ecology), and MNatSci Ocean & Earth Science and Biological Sciences (specialising in Marine Ecology).
If you are accepted onto one of our degrees in marine biology, you will discover that the subject has developed exponentially over the past years with, for example, the discovery of hydrothermal vents and cold seeps; the ability to conduct experimental programmes at sea; the use of molecular methods in marine biology and the huge expansion of the data base on marine animals.
Lucy Wells, who graduated with a degree in marine biologie in 2006, said: As soon as I saw the National Oceanography Centre Southampton on an open day I knew it was the only place for me to study. The facilities were all state-of-the-art and the boats allowed hands on fieldwork to enhance the lecture series.”
