A Guide to Admissions in Engineering Courses at Good Colleges For BTech

The academic session 2023 – 2024 for colleges and universities is about to begin a few weeks. The potential candidates who will be enrolling for a variety of courses in this session, are currently busy in the most important stage of their academic life i.e., the board exams.  By now most of the students must have a clear picture of the course that they wish to join or have a list of courses they might be interested. Every year a good amount of students opt for engineering courses. In this blog, we will discuss about the procedure to enroll at good colleges for BTech.

Commonly applicable Procedure for admission

For standardized procedure throughout the country there are three major modes of admission that are followed in most of the government and private colleges. These three modes are –

Merit based counselling on rank of Joint Entrance Examination

As most of the students know and most probably would be preparing for Joint Entrance Examination for admission into 12th standard is generally the basic way to enroll into a course. This is basically a national level exam conducted for 12th passouts to get into engineering colleges. Joint Entrance Examination is considered to be the toughest exam around the world. Over the years, the difficulty level of the exam has been increasing. However, the number of students who opt for this course is also exponentially increasing each year. For admission into a top college for BTech program you need to score a good rank in this exam.

Direct Admission for 12th Board Toppers

There are many direct admission colleges for BTech in India. These colleges offer admissions to meritorious students and students who are state or national toppers in the Board examination. There are a certain percentage of seats available for students who fall in this category. Under this method, a student fills in the admission forms for the course, goes through a counseling session and then enrolls if all other criteria match.

Merit based counseling on 12th aggregate marks

Certain private colleges offer admissions to students on the basis of their score in the 12th board evaluated along with their performance during the counseling sessions. This is the case of most of the private colleges that allow admission on this basis.

Lesser used Procedure for admission – Lateral Entry

Students enroll in several courses after completing the 12th grade, depending on their inclinations. They will advance to the course’s first year. This is how students are often admitted to a course. However, there is another method of receiving course entrance, known as lateral entry. The second year of a course will be immediately elevated for a student. The lateral entrance is available to students who have finished a diploma programme and wish to enroll in a graduating programme. The fundamentals of the diploma have previously been examined. As a result, they would not benefit from attending the first year. They are deemed qualified for the second year of the course by the organization that regulates the course.

Conclusion

While JEE is a preferred way of accepting admissions for colleges, but there still are direct admission colleges for BTech in India. These colleges allow admissions to students on the basis of their merit in 12th. Besides lateral entry is another important way of admission into the good colleges for BTech. Graduates of diploma programs are already conversant with the fundamental ideas of the corresponding degree. Therefore, students are not required to study in the first year, which comprises mostly of the fundamentals of a course.
